Windham Back On Top

Team AMSOIL Supercross rider Kevin Windham likes racing in Seattle, Wash. The elder statesman of the AMA Supercross Series won his last race in 2008 in Seattle, and repeated the feat this past Saturday night.

Windham was determined to return to the winner’s circle. On a night where the track was extremely technical and rough due to rain throughout the week, the veteran rider grabbed the holeshot and never looked bac, leading all 20 laps of the main event.

Even though Ryan Dungy wrapped up the Supercross title in Seattle, Windham can still finish second overall as he just 18 points behind Ryan Villopoto with two rounds left. The GEICO Powersports/AMSOIL team will race this weekend in Salt Lake City.

Until then, we'll see you at the races.

Barcia Wins, Windham Second in St. Louis

St. Louis seems to be a winning zone for Team AMSOIL on the AMA Supercross Series. Last year, rookie Blake Wharton picked up his first pro win for the GEICO Powersports/Honda team. This past weekend another rookie, Justin Barcia, picked up his second pro win in the Gateway City. Lites teammate Brett Metcalfe finished third. Barcia's late season push, propelled him to second overall in the final East Coast Lites standings.

Not to be outdone, Kevin Windham picked up his second straight podium, finishing second to Ryan Dungey. K-Dub now sits fourth overall with three races left.

Trey Canard and Metcalfe will resume the West Coast Lites Series in Seattle this weekend. Canard, who has been racing the 450 class for Team Honda, will try to reel in Jake Weimer over the next two races for the championship. Weimer holds a slim 14-point lead over Canard.

Until then, we'll see you at the races.

Circle Track Tour Officialy On The Road

The AMSOIL Great American Circle Track Tour is officially underway. Circle Track Magazine publisher Jim Foos and Tech Editor Bob Bolles spent a few hours in the pits at the Lanier Speedway's Spring Explosion in Lanier, Ga. on Saturday.

The amazing thing about this tour is its diversity. The Circle Track Tour visits dirt tracks, asphalt, USAC events and much more. As you can see, several of the teams put the AMSOIL decal on their race car or truck for that nights race.

It was also nice to see AMSOIL Dealers Jerry and Peggy Holcomb taking advantage of the Tour coming to their track.

You can follow Bob Bolles' blog at http://www.circletrack.com/.

The AMSOIL Great American Circle Track Tour heads to Tri-County Speedway in Hudson, N.C. tomorrow and Lonesome Pine in Coeburn, Va. on Saturday.

Until then, we'll see you at the races.

Zimmer One of Sports Top Drivers

Sponsorships work well when the sponsor supports the teams efforts and the team either wins or gets recognized for their accomplishments. So, we here at AMSOIL will lend our support to the efforts of the Sudden Impact Racing and the driver of the AMSOIL Shock Therapy monster truck Jon Zimmer.

As we've stated before, Zimmer was the 2009 Monster Jam Rising Star recipient. Now Zimmer, who competed in his firs Monster Jam World Finals two weeks ago in Las Vegas, cracked the top 20 of the final 2010 Monster Jame Power Rankings. For a guy who took part in his first World Finals in front of 80,000 people, that's one a great accomplishment.

You can watch the MJ World Finals on CBS this Sunday at Noon EST. You can catch Zimmer and AMSOIL Shock Therapy this Saturday in Elko, Minn.

Until then, we'll see you at the races.

Tomac Turning Pro This Summer

Most, if not all, racing series took the Easter Holiday off from competition, so there's not a lot of industry buzz to pass along. One exciting piece of news that is ready to share is the announcement that Team AMSOIL motocross rider Eli Tomac will be hitting the pro circuit this summer.

With the Outdoor Nationals just around the corner, the GEICO Powersports Honda will be putting Tomac on their Lites program when the series starts at the Hangtown Motocross Classic in Sacramento, Calif. May 22.
Tomac has been tearing up the lower ranks the past few years and has won his last two amateur races. He was also one of the top rides at the Amateur Nationals at Loretta Lynn's last August.

"My dad and I have been preparing for the pro team since the winter," Tomac said. "I've been around a lot of the pro guys quite a bit, so it shouldn't be hard adjusting to the new team. I've been doing amateur races for about 10 years and going to the same track starts to get a little bit old. It's going to be fun to take on new competition at new tracks."

The current line-up of the GEICO team will be in Houston this upcoming weekend. You will get the chance to see how well the team has developed young riders up to this point as rookie Justin Barcia will be one of the favorites at Reliant Stadium. Other young riders developed by the team include Trey Canard and Blake Wharton, both of whom compete in the West Coast Series.

Until then, we'll see you at the races.

Circle Track Looks at New USAC

The latest edition of Circle Track Magazine is taking a follow-up look at the United States Auto Club, or USAC. As you may have heard, AMSOIL is the Exclusive Official Oil of USAC and the title sponsor of the AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship.
Here is an excerpt from Part 1 of Rob Fisher's USAC article. You can read the rest on-line here, or pick up a copy of the magazine.

United States Auto Club - USAC-Two Years Later, Part One
Kevin Miller Has Been At The Helm Of USAC For A Couple Of Years Now. We Sat Down With Him To See How It's Doing.
May, 2010 issue of Circle Track
By Rob Fisher

Toward the end of January 2008 Kevin Miller was appointed the head of USAC, the 50-plus-year-old sanction that was formed when AAA got out of the auto racing business. By many accounts, Miller and the other new hires, including Jason Smith and James Spink, inherited a hornet's nest of problems. Fixing them and moving the sanction forward would be a challenge to say the least. Several months after Miller and company took over, Circle Track sat down with the former Mopar Brand Strategist and got his take on those challenges and how he was about to tackle them (April '09 Circle Track). With the dawning of a new decade, we thought it would be the perfect time to ring up his Speedway Indiana office and check on how the series is doing.

First up on Kevin's mind was his impending trip to East Bay Raceway Park for 2010 Speedweeks. Miller had inked a deal for a three-day show at the 3/8-mile clay oval just outside Tampa, Florida.

"I am very excited to be back in Florida. Getting back into that Speedweeks environment is very important to us to grow our brand," says Miller. "The dates (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights) aren't ideal but they were in one of the sweet spots we looked at. The Outlaws end on Sunday at Volusia and the All Stars start on Thursday at East Bay."

Despite that sweet spot between the two competing winged dirt Sprint sanctions, Miller couldn't convince East Bay management to take the gamble on USAC. So, he did.

"This is not a track promotion, this is a USAC promotion," explains Miller. "We're renting the track, we're paying the purse. The track liked the idea a lot but didn't want to take the gamble so we're taking the gamble even though we don't normally promote races."

Becoming the promoter of record is something new that USAC has been doing to really expand its racing product. "Our first promotion we ever did was Calistoga in 2008 and it sold out two nights in a row. We're trying to build events not just races. This Tampa thing is a fresh one we can get people excited about."

Miller's goal for Tampa? "It was kind of an off time and with Daytona being down there, there may be some opportunity to capitalize."

Read the rest of the article online at Circle Track.com.

AMSOIL also works closely with Circle Track Magazine on the AMSOIL Great American Circle Track Tour, which will hit 25 tracks this summer.

Until then, we'll see you at the races.

Show Your Support For Team AMSOIL

If consistency matters, then the AMSOIL sponsored Factory Connection Racing team has been the top team in Supercross this season.

Racer X Online is taking a poll on which pro team should be considered the Team of the Year in Supercross. (Take the poll here.) Consider that all foCheck Spellingur of their Lites riders are in the top five in points, with Trey Canard second in the East Coast Lites Series. Veteran rider Kevin Windham is also picking up podiums and currently sits fifth overall in the Supercross class.

There are a lot of good teams out there, but none of them can duplicate the success that Team AMSOIL has had week in and week out these past few months.

The team will be off this weekend and back in action in Houston on April 10.

Until then, we'll see you at the races.
