Eckstrom Misses Cut

Winter X qualifying took place again this past weekend at Park X in Hill City, Minn. Team AMSOIL rider D.J. Eckstrom, a two-time medalist at Winter X, was trying to make the cut after missing his chance at the season opener in Duluth.

Eckstrom ran strong in two heats, but a crash pushed him into the LCQ. He would win that race by a substantial margin, but still had to start in the back row for Sunday's final. He grabbed a great start in the final, quickly moving into a transfer spot. But it wouldn't last long as he was landed on from behind by another rider, dropping him from a top-five finish.

Eckstrom will have another chance this weekend at the Gaylord, Mich. "double" national. The WPSA has elected to run two full days of pro racing on Saturday and Sunday, along with a Winter X games qualifier. Eckstrom's teammate, Shaun Crapo, has already qualified for the Winter X Games, which will be held at the end of January in Aspen, Colo.

One more note, the AMSOIL Duluth National will re-air this week on SPEED. The original airing was last Saturday, but the repeat broadcast will be on Thursday afternoon at two o'clock EST.

See you at the track,
