Summer Heats Up for Smith

Team AMSOIL late model driver Brady Smith has been tearing up the countryside looking for wins in his AMSOIL/Chevy Monte Carlo. Here's a look at how Smith has been doing the past couple of weeks:

July 6-8, 2007 -- Smith and his team invaded the Volunteer State of Tennessee for a pair of NARA Late Model Dirt Series events. On Friday night, July 6, the Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, Tenn played host to a $10,000 to win show. Smith finished second in his competitive heat race to earn the inside fourth row starting spot for the 75-lap feature event. During the course of the A-Main, Smith was able to get by three cars en route to a fourth place finish behind winner Jimmy Owens, Scott James, and Scott Bloomquist.

The action then turned to the Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, Tennessee on Saturday for another $10,000 to win event. Smith could only muster a sixth place finish in his heat race, but rallied to win his B-Main to earn a coveted starting spot in the main event. The Solon Springs, Wis. native rolled off 18th for the A-Main and quickly pointed his AMSOIL/Bloomquist machine towards the front of the field. Smith was able to pass 16 of the best Dirt Late Model drivers in the country to earn a strong runner-up performance to car builder Scott Bloomquist. All of the exciting racing action at the "Gap" on Saturday was taped by the cameras of SPEED Channel for viewing later in the season.

July 9, 2007 -- Smith was in action at the C.J. Raceway in Columbus Junction, Iowa, as the UMP Summernationals tour invaded the Hawkeye State for the first time in 2007. Smith finished fourth in his competitive heat race and rolled off from the fifth row for the $6,000 to win A-Main. At the conclusion of the feature event, Smith was credited with a strong fourth place performance behind winner Shannon Babb, Don O'Neal, and Billy Moyer.

July 10, 2007 -- The UMP Summernationals tour continued at the Quincy Raceway in Quincy, Ill. and another $6,000 top prize was up for grabs. Smith finished second in his heat race before driving his AMSOIL Monte Carlo to a strong third place effort in the A-Main behind winner Shannon Babb and runner-up Dennis Erb.

Smith will be at the LaSalle Speedway on Thursday, July 12 and at the Farmer Cit Raceway in Farmer City, Ill. on Friday night.

Until then, we'll see you at the races,
